Start with the date and location, not the product photo

Find the flyer’s effective start and end dates before making a list. A weekend-only box, a one-day offer, or a page-level date can override the broader flyer period. Check that the flyer is for your province, region, or selected store; chains can show different offers by postal code or store.

A digital flyer may update after it is first published. If your trip depends on one item, reopen the current official flyer before leaving and keep a substitute in mind.

Read the offer as a complete sentence

Multi-buy wording is incomplete until you know what happens when you buy fewer than the promoted quantity. Some retailers allow the proportional price; others specify a separate single price. Use the flyer’s actual wording rather than assuming a chain-wide rule.

Example flyer box

Headline: 2 for $7

Qualifier: selected 400–450 g varieties

Condition: members only, limit 4, after-limit price $4.49 each

The $3.50 effective price applies only if you buy two eligible packages, use the required membership, and remain within the limit. One package or the wrong size can produce a different total.

A 60-second flyer checklist

  • Effective dates, including inset weekend or one-day dates.
  • Province, city, store selection, and participating-location wording.
  • Exact product, package size, selected varieties, and whether the photo is illustrative.
  • Regular, sale, and member prices—keep them as separate numbers.
  • Minimum quantity, limit, after-limit price, coupon, or loaded-offer requirement.
  • Unit price and the quantity your household can use before quality declines.

What a flyer cannot promise

A flyer is a promotional document, not a live inventory system. “While quantities last” makes stock uncertainty explicit, but even an offer without that phrase can sell out or vary by location. A rain check, if offered, is governed by the retailer’s current policy and may exclude limited, seasonal, or supplier-constrained items.

Use flyers to narrow choices, then confirm the package and shelf label in store. For a digital order, confirm the selected fulfillment location, time slot, substitutions, and final cart price.
